Cataloging @ UWCSEA East: iTunes digital content

Need to look at records and perhaps add more subject headings.

See Mother courage and her children for an example record.

Click on Add Title. New records are automatically created as RDA records.

BRIEF TITLE TAB

• TItle - the name of the course. also put this phrase in the subtitle "behind the scenes; study and teaching."
• Author: National Theatre (this may change as courses are added but for right now every course is from National Theatre.)
• Material Type: Video
• Date: the iTunes page usually has a release date.
• Add in a 110 tag, 1st indicator 2, 2nd indicator blank, subfield a "National Theatre." This will cause the author to display in the title record and the FIND IT button to appear if there is more than one. Without this tag, the author is still searchable but does not disply in the Title Details.

SERIES/NOTES TAB

• Series: iTunes U. Use Find Heading to ensure consistencey.
• Interest Level; leave blank
• General note: "Available on East Library iPads."
• Summary: find a summary by googling "[name of app] iTunes" The language will be promotional; try to edit out the advertising and just get a description of what the app does. 

SUBJECTS TAB

• For the National Theatre courses, include the Topical SHs Drama and Theater.
• There may be records for the plays in Alliance Plus; you can get subject headings from the print record.
• See if the description gives you ideas about subject headings to use - try to get 2 or 3. Use Find Heading to see if the heading has been used previously either as a Topical Heading or a Local Heading. If it has not been used previously, then use the Local Heading tab to add it.
• Do add appropriate common headings like poetry, music, drama, etc. in Topical Heading; use Find Heading for consistency.

RESOURCES TAB

• Google "[name of course] iTunes" and use the URL of the iTunes U description page for the URL resource. This is not a link to the iTunes store itself, but rather the description page at apple.com. For the description, use "iTunes U - course description page." 

RDA TAB

• Content type: two-dimensional moving image
• Media type: computer
• Carrier type: online resource
• You may need to add a type and then delete the incorrect type.

Save Title record.

Add a Site Specific Subject Heading: East Library iTunes account. Use the Find Heading button for consistency.

Add an image - can probably get it from the apple.com description page. 

ADD COPIES

• Assign next barcode
• Call number: S\iTunes - Library East.
• Purchase price: leave blank
• Circ type: Sec Library - High school and above
• Sublocation: leave blank
• Vendor: iTunes
• Invoice: as appropriate

Click on Add Title. New records are automatically created as RDA records. Try finding records in Alliance, this special Amazon link for English, French and German books and movies,  Worldcat, IMDB, iTunes, etc. (for iTunes info, google " iTunes [name of movie]"

BRIEF TITLE TAB

• TItle - the title of the movie. Use Subtitle if appropriate.
• Author: enter the phrase "directed by Firstname Lastname." Find the name of the director[s].
• Edition: enter the languages available, for example "English/French/Spanish/Portuguese dialogue version" 
• Material Type: Video, no subtype.
• Author: leave this blank, and add pertinent roles in the Added Entries tab. See below.
• Place: get from iTunes page.
• Publisher: get from iTunes page.
• Date: get from iTunes page.
• Extent: give the length of the film in minutes.

SERIES/NOTES TAB

• Series: ADD the series name "iTunes movies" by using Find Heading. Additional series can be entered in the Marc editor, using the 490 tag. For example, the series Cirque du Soleil, Harry Potter, Star Wars, Star Trek, etc.
• Interest Level; leave this blank.
• General note: "Available on East Library iPads."
• Summary: get this from the iTunes page.
• Various kinds of information can be included in 5xx fields, such as performers, credits, etc. See Cirque du Soleil: Worlds Away for an example.

SUBJECTS TAB

• There are no set subject headings for the movies. 
• See if you can get subject headings from records in Alliance or Worldcat.
• See if the description gives you ideas about subject headings to use - try to get 2 or 3. Use Find Heading to see if the heading has been used previously either as a Topical Heading or a Local Heading. If it has not been used previously, then use the Local Heading tab to add it.
• Add genre headings as appropriate, much like books. Use the Marc editor and the 655 tag, add genres like Action and adventure films, animated films, etc. See box below for list of genres. Please add to the list as appropriate. IMDB usually lists some genres, as does the iTunes page.

RESOURCES TAB

• Link to the IMDB page. In the Description box, write "IMDB information on video."

Added Entries

• Add as appropriate; directors, star actors, producers, firms.

Save the title record; select all punctuation suggestions; Save the title record again.
