Samples from the IBO

The IBO publishes two volumes of 50 Excellent Extended Essays.

A collection of extended essays submitted for the IB Diploma Programme. The essays, all of which scored a top A grade, have been selected by senior examiners to show a variety of approaches students can use to achieve success in the extended essay.  Covers:

  • All 6 IB Diploma Programme groups
  • Popular subjects including English A1, Economics, History, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics
Click on the link below to access PDFs of the essays via Google Docs.  NB: You must be logged into a UWCSEA Google Apps account in order to have access to these files.

All 100 essays are also available in printed form in the East campus library.  Look for the display case near the circulation desk. The binders are color-coded by groups.  No need to check them out - it's an honor system of take-and-return-when-done.

All essays listed in the UWCSEA Dover library catalog may be read by going to the Dover campus secondary catalog.  They are stored in either digital form on a CD (2009 onwards) or in paper form.  You must ask the library staff for help in accessing the Extended Essays, which must be read in the library.  They are not available for loan.
The East campus library has been given copies of the Dover CDs -- the extended essays from 2009 onwards that earned an "A" or "B" grade.  Again, you must ask the library staff and may only view the essay, not copy or print it.  Just give us the EX number and year, e.g., EX 04244 (2011), you're interested in.
