Good reads for Grade 6 students: Start here

This LibGuide contains suggestions for reading in different genres. These are just some recommendations from the many books in the UWCSEA library, but may help you with authors or types of books you would like to read.

Introduction

Welcome to this LibGuide about genres and themes. Each tab at the top of this page contains recommendations or examples of the genre or theme you're interested in.

The tabs relate to the following genres -

  • Adventure stories
  • Animal stories
  • Biography and autobiography
  • Fantasy
  • Historical fiction
  • Mystery stories
  • Poetry anthologies
  • Realistic fiction
  • Science fiction
  • Traditional and classic literature

On each tab, you will find suggestions for reading in that genre. As well as a picture of the book's cover, each item is 'hyper-linked' to further details about the book, in the UWCSEA online catalogue. To obtain further information, just click on the title of the book (which is in blue coloured print).

Please think creatively when looking at the recommendations. For instance, whilst one book by an author may be mentioned, that author may have written a series or other books that are similar.

Information books

Another of the genres you're looking at in Grade 6 is Information books. In the Library, this is a very wide genre. Indeed, in libraries, we also call this genre 'non-fiction'. There are so many information or non-fiction books in the library. You might like to think of topics or subjects you enjoy finding out about, e.g. sports, inventions, places and history.

To help you find them, you can use the subject option on the Destiny online catalogue.
